Artist Bio:
Matthew Cohen (b. 1991, Tarrytown, NY) is a New York based photographer. He earned his MFA from International Center of Photography in 2016 and BA in Comparative religion from Skidmore College in 2013. He is the Production Manager and Lead Fitter at Kurian&Co Frame and display. His two latest publications ‘Jupiter’ and ‘Marker’ can be found at Dashwood Books.
Artist Statement:
Through photography I strive to understand and record a palpable mapping of both physical and emotional distance. I map my surroundings and balance what is both physically near and far. I employ two modalities - a geographic traversing of distance and a grasping at understanding that which feels distant. By pairing that which is intimate and close alongside nature and outer space I photograph the spectrum of distance.
